US GOVERNMENT VS ANTI WAR

Something that you hardly see on the internet these days centralizes around anti war posts. Why might that be?

When taking a look at one of these websites, you see one common theme: it all involves the United States in one way or another. They give you straight facts, and a lot of times it ends up painting a bad picture on the United States. The other website does a very similar thing, except its not just about war, and it has a conservative article for just about any topic you can find. There's nothing inherently wrong with these websites, they're just another opinion on a vast web of opinions. So why aren't they that popular?

One possible reason is because of the United States' history of acting upon those who speak negatively during war time. It was very prevalent during both world wars, and you can find it with just about every war the United States has been a part of, especially over the almost 100 years. Those who voiced their opinions during war time were persecuted and some were even thrown in jail, and there is one very widely known example...

Abrams vs United States is one example. In short, this case upheld the 1917 Espionage Act making it a criminal offense to make certain remarks that could hinder war efforts. Denouncing war efforts landed them a 20 year prison sentence. Shortly after, a very famous dissenting opinion (Holmes Famous Dissent) stated that their leaflets did not meet the "clear and present danger" test, thus was their reasoning behind disagreeing with the ruling. This is one of the most famous, if not the most famous dissenting opinion in United States history, and it relates to the topic at hand of why its so hard to find anti war material these days. The United States past had made it risky to post such topics, and if the United States returns to very significant wartime in the future, these sites would not only likely become very hushed, but their past statements could come back and bite them in the butt.
